Diagnostic Criteria of Autism
According to the CDC and the DSM-5, Autism is diagnosed using the following criteria:
- Deficits in social interaction and communication in three differing areas (see the article on Autism Spectrum Disorder at www.cdc.gov )
- Two of four types of restricted, repetitive behaviors stated in the above article/site.
For as many people there are in the world currently, there are just as many types of Autism. No one person with this disorder can or should be the "poster child" for this disorder and information on the disorder is constantly changing. It is also important to treat Autistics at any age and demographic with respect and kindness.
